Nasolabial Filler: More Than Adding Volume – an Anti-Ageing Treatment
As I have mentioned in many articles, I divide ageing practically into four stages. In stage one, the fat tissue of the cheek separates from the fat pads under the eye and shifts downwards, and in the meantime a groove forms under the eye. We sometimes even call the fat pads above it under-eye bags. In fact, all that happens is that the under-eye fat pad and the cheek separate from each other, making the under-eye fat pads noticeable. By stage two, the cheek fat has shifted further down and presses on the area at its edge called the nasolabial sulcus, making it deeper. In stage three, the sagging passes the jawline, and in stage four, as you will remember, sagging of the neck joins in.
The subject of this article is how the nasolabial sulcus that has deepened in stage two can be corrected. Of course, if this deepening is caused by increased downward sagging of the cheek tissue, the repair is first of all to lift what has sagged back into place. However, because the fat tissue at the level of the groove melts away with age, lifting alone sometimes does not make the nasolabial groove recede. Since we have a groove, a hollow, it is not at all wrong to look for the solution in nasolabial filler. Medium-firm fillers should be used for nasolabial filler, because soft fillers disappear very early due to the strength of the muscle junction in this area, while very firm fillers will feel like a substance foreign to the structure of the area.
Nasolabial fillers performed with the right planning and technique help to remove this groove, one of the most important signs of ageing.
So are nasolabial fillers only suitable for older faces? Of course not. A nasolabial filler can be applied to anyone whose groove is anatomically deep.
